Submerged Entry Nozzle Application:
Submerged Entry Nozzle (SEN) are usually made from a combination of carbon bonded alumina, zirconia and magnesia with graphite, which have been found to give the best response to the extreme demands of thermal shock, corrosion and erosion resistance.
Adequate preheating of the submerged entry nozzle (SEN) is important to avoid problems such as thermal cracks and skulling, and depends on torch configuration, fuel, SEN geometry and other factors. Continuous casting is the most important method of producing ingot in the world. The controlling parts of melts are shroud, stopper and submerged entry nozzle (SEN), which are special refractories. Among the special refractory components, SEN is very important. The duty of SEN is pouring the liquid steel from tundish to crystallizator.
The submerged entry nozzle (SEN) has been used to transport the molten steel from tundish to the mould. The main purpose of the SEN usage is both to prevent oxygen and nitrogen pick-up by molten steel and to achieve the desired flow condition in the mould. Therefore, the submerged entry nozzle can be considered as a vital factor for a stable casting process and the steel quality. Furthermore, the steelmaking processes occur at high temperatures around 1873 K so the interaction between the refractory materials of the submerged entry nozzle and molten steel is unavoidable. Therefore, the knowledge of the submerged entry nozzle behaviors during pre-heating and casting is necessary for the design of the steelmaking processes.
