Ladle shroud, also named as long nozzle, as a refractory product it is used as a connection nozzle between Ladle and Tundish. In order to keep the molten liquid from being oxidized and splattered when it flows from ladle to tundish, a shroud is needed to be installed underneath the ladle. One side is connected with lower nozzle, and the other side inserts into the tundish for casting in a sealed condition.
Ladle shroud function is stated as follows: Protect the molten liquid from oxidized, which could improve the steel quality accordingly; Reduce the deposition of oxidation material stacking on nozzle surface, prolong its service life; Ladle shroud can be used for many times, so it reduce the refractory consumption to some content.
Ladle shroud is characterized with following properties: excellent thermal shock resistance; good mechanical behavior and resistance to shake or vibration; High erosion resistance to molten liquid and slag; it is equipped with airtight device at the joint.
There are two types of ladle shroud, which are classified as quartz and aluminum carbon based. Those two types ladle shroud both have good resistant ability to thermal shock and erosion, high mechanical strength. However, compared with aluminum carbon shroud, quartz shroud is comparatively easy to react with Fe and Manganese containing in the liquid and slag, which is not good for liquid purity either.
